Father-and-son team create unique service

Lashley said. “However, EnviroCare’s non-toxic mold prevention surface treatment does not act as a vapor barrier so it protects these surfaces from mold growth while still allowing moisture to escape from the material.” When moisture levels on and around the treated surfaces reach a point conducive to mold and mildew growth, the silver ions are activated. “The silver prevents the mold’s RNA/DNA from splitting,” Lashley said. “This prevents mold growth on treated surfaces.” Unlike other fungicide products, the silver particles in this coating do not degrade or wash away giving the product long-term potency.  The e.coat application will not slow the construction cycle, add new inventory or impose new workers and management on the construction project. An E.M.S. Inc. e.coat- certified professional applies the product with an airless paint sprayer at the framing stage prior to installation of doors, windows and insulation. Application times can range from one to one and a half hours, and because the product is water based, it dries quickly with no residual odor.

“Many top home builders nationwide already are using e.coat as the standard for mold and moisture protection in new homes,” Lashley said. “Locally, some builders have decided to use e.coat to protect all the homes they build.” Pricing is determined not by square footage of the home but by the applied square footage. For example, if the product is applied to the interior walls and wet walls of the home, the cost is calculated using only the square footage of the surfaces coated with e.coat. “The cost of this treatment can be incorporated into the cost of the home or offered to home buyers as an option,” Lashley said. “Either way, e.coat is the most affordable method of prevention on the market.”

It is the only mold-prevention product available with a 20-year written warranty. The warranty includes coverage of any remediation costs should a problem arise. It is issued to the homeowner and is fully transferable in the event the home is sold. “Builders who use this product are proactive,” Lashley said. “They are taking steps to avoid possible litigation as well as considering the well being of the home’s future owners and their families.”
