Termidor & Sentricon
Termidor, once you mix it up it is odorless and virtually clear; therefore, it doesn’t form a barrier or repel the termites. Termites forage the first 10 inches or so everywhere in the ground, so if the product is not a barrier, when they forage they don’t know they are in it. Once in the Termidor, termites are very social, they groom each other, feed each other, and are constantly in contact with each other. Therefore, spreading the product throughout the colony. The product works fast enough that you can get full control within 90 days, but slow enough that all the termites have time to interact with each other.
Example: If you had an ant problem in your home, and if we new where the ants were coming from or where the nest was at, we would just go over there and kill the suckers…..
Nevertheless, if we don’t know where the nest is at first, we don’t want to spray, why?
We would leave a chemical barrier and the ants would simply go around it.
If we see one lonely ant walking across the table and smacked it, what did we do?
We killed one lonely little poor ant.
Now, let’s say we put out some yummy bait for the ant, and she ate it, which by the way is a slow stomach poison. The ant then went back to the colony and will regurgitate or purge {that’s how they transfer food} and feed all the other ants. Now, everyone is feeding on the bait, everyone gets sick and therefore eliminates the entire colony.
That’s in plain English and the best way I can explain how Termidor works.
We started using Termidor October 1, 2000, and since chlordane was taken off the market in 1987, our hands have, in my opinion, been tied behind our backs.Have you heard of the person that has had their home treated for termites again and again? Well in most cases, especially in years past that was the case. It wasn’t because the pest control operator loved coming back out and seeing the folks again, it was that we could only use what products were on the market for us to use, and let me tell you they were junk…
Before we started using Termidor, we had a few of those, as we call them in the business, termite houses from he__.
Since the product did not come out for our use until October of 2000, we contacted these few homeowners and told them we would like to come out to completely retreat it, free of charge, using Termidor.
At this time, I was still skeptical. I had heard all the advertisements, read all the literature, attended all the classes and became an authorized user of the product. Now, came the real test, will it work?
The houses I have mentioned, had been treated several times with various products. Some worked a few weeks, some worked a few months, but the homes still had termites attacking them.
The day arrived, between October 2000 and March of 2001, our company treated each of these mentioned homes and I am proud to say that the termites are gone. Termidor Home Page
It is by far the most effective, termite chemical on the market today, and the most powerful tool we have to fight termites with, and I will stake my companies name and reputation on it!
Sentricon: What is Sentricon? Sentricon is a product that Dow Elanco Chemical Company produced and started marketing years ago. At the time it came out, it really wasn’t a bad product, matter of fact it worked pretty well.
At the time it had come out, chlordane was taken off the market, and all we had was junk to use. Ineffective, short term, man made products, because all of the chlorinated hydrocarbons & organelle phosphates had been taken of the market or band from use as a preventive termiticide for soil pretreatments.
The Dow Chemical Company invented, marketed and produced Sentricon because the industry needs an effective product to fight the war against termites.
What is Sentricon? Sentricon bait stations are put around the home every 10 feet or so, close to the house. These bait stations are nothing but a plastic cup like device put in the ground. What is inside it? Just a plain piece of wood, nothing else, just a piece of wood you can buy at home depot.
Monitoring the Stations: The pest control company checks the bait stations every 3 months, by removing a cap, and pulling out a plain piece of wood to see if there is any termites feeding on the wood.

How does it work? Again, as I stated before, termites forage the first 10 or so inches of the soil. As they forage they have to accidentally find one of these bait stations and begin to start feeding on the wood.
If there is termite activity when the pest control technician pulls the cap off and pulls out the piece of wood, he will place back in the station the actual bait and put the feeding termites very gently back in the station. Kind of like putting corn out in the woods before hunting season, bait’um up.
Now, the pest control technician will monitor the station about every 2 weeks until there is no more activity in that station and then replace it back with a plain piece of wood.
Question? You pay all this money up front for Sentricon installation, and monitoring. Do you own it? No! Does the pest control company that installed the system own it? No! Dow Elanco Chemical Company owns it.
The pest control company basically rents it from Dow Elanco, and in return bills you for it.
Do you now know what the neat thing is about this? Up front, you sign a contract stating that if you don’t want the system any more, don’t pay your bill or what ever, that they can come on your property without your permission and snatch it out of the ground. You never own it!
Conclusion: I’m not saying that Sentricon doesn’t work, on the contrary, it has been proven time and time again of being a very effective tool to fight termites in the industry. Even being a pioneer in the business after organelle phosphates were taken off the market. What I am saying is, as I outlined above, with Sentricon, you never own it. There is a complicated and on going series of events that must take place for the Sentricon termite baiting system in conjunction with the pest control company’s monitoring techniques and the guidelines set forth by Dow Elanco Chemical Company that must be adhered to for this system to work. With Termidor, the termites have to do absolutely nothing other than what they do already, which is forage the first 10 inches or so of the soil, no monitoring required, no baits to keep up with and guess what, YOU OWN IT.
The following is the opinion of David Lashley, based on personal studies conducted in the field using Termidor & other types of baiting systems. info-now@enviropestinc.com
